A Wainiha man who had pled guilty to three felony charges stemming from two separate Hanalei burglaries over the past two years received the maximum sentence allowed.
Ray Kuna Harada, 36, was sentenced to 10 years in prison by 5th Circuit Judge Randal Valenciano yesterday.

Full Closure Near Wainiha Bridges

Kuhio Highway will be closed in both directions near the Wainiha Bridges on Tuesday night to Wednesday morning from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., for bridge installation and pavement surfacing work.
During this closure, a shuttle van will provide transportation for residents, businesses and guests with lodging on the Haena-side of the bridge.

Kauai land trust grows

A group of Kaua’i landowners recently donated a 17,000-square-foot parcel of beachfront land on the island’s North Shore to the Kaua’i Public Land Trust.
The popular fishing spot, just west of Wainiha Bay, will be permanently preserved for public use, the trust said in a news release announcing the gift.

Blaze engulfs 50 acres in Wainiha

What began as burning trash on the North Shore quickly turned into a nightmare scorching 50-plus acres. It took firefighters eight hours to extinguish it yesterday morning.
