Bethany Hamilton advanced to Round 3 and Roy Powers won his heat yesterday in the Drug Aware Pro at Margaret River in Australia.
Hamilton surfed the 9- to 10-foot waves to finish second to Australia’s Nicola Atherton and will face New Zealand’s Paige Hareb.

Bystander saves swimmer

A 48-year-old South Carolina man was rescued from the surf at Lumahai Beach on the North Shore yesterday around 3 p.m.
