Kauai shrimp farm under quarantine

The State Department of Agriculture has placed an emergency quarantine prohibiting the movement of shrimp from Limaloa Farm on Kaua’i.
The quarantine was issued on Monday when tests confirmed White Spot Syndrome Virus in the shrimp.
White Spot Syndrom Virus, also referred to as WSSV, is a highly contagious and fatal disease for shrimp and other crustaceans. [...]

Baptiste OK after surgery

The mayor of Kauai has a heart bypass performed on Oahu
Kauai Mayor Bryan Baptiste is “his usual feisty self” after heart bypass surgery Friday, Kauai public information officer Mary Daubert said yesterday.
Baptiste, 52, went in for a routine checkup last week, and doctors apparently did not like what they saw.
