NA PALI COAST TRAIL — Emergency responders were called to rescue an injured man after his mother called dispatch at 6:18 p.m. Saturday night.
The man, a 27-year-old from Seattle, was hiking through rugged terrain near Hanakapi‘ai Beach.
His mother called dispatch to report he had injured his ankle, according to Mary Daubert, county spokeswoman.

Kalalau permits suspended till weather improves

The Department of Land and Natural Resources has temporarily suspended issuing camping permits for the remote Kalalau Trail, Kalalau Valley camping area in the Na Pali Coast State Park, due to weather and trail conditions and dangerous stream crossings caused by current heavy rains.

Injured hiker evacuated

Emergency personnel evacuated by helicopter an injured female hiker from the Na Pali Coast Trail to Princeville Airport yesterday afternoon. From Princeville, she was then taken by ambulance to Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She suffered a broken ankle, Kaua‘i County spokeswoman Mary Daubert said.

Injured hiker plucked from rocks

Four rescue specialists from Lihu‘e Fire Station, with helicopter support, worked yesterday to evacuate a hiker who fell some 40 feet around noon Wednesday onto rocks on the Napali Coast.
An Inter-Island helicopter helped airlift the hiker, who fell while hiking about 1/2 mile on the Hanalei side of the Kalalau Valley.

Department of Land and Natural Resources firefighting personnel on Kaua‘i contained a fire near the end of the 11-mile Kalalau hiking trail at the Kalalau campground, according to a DLNR statement.
