Ke’e Beach is closed this afternoon due to a shark sighting in the area and will remain closed at least until tomorrow morning.
According to Ocean Safety officials, a 6- to 7-foot black tip shark was spotted in the lagoon this afternoon.
Signs are posted in the area warning of the shark sighting and no swimming allowed.

Kauai’s Hanalei Bay closed after shark sighting

Kaua’i Ocean Safety officials have closed Hanalei Bay until further notice after a shark was spotted in the area this morning.
Lifeguards saw an 8-to-10-foot shark and posted signs to alert beach-goers.
Hanalei Bay will be reopened when it is deemed safe for the public to re-enter the water, county officials said.

Kaua‘i beach among most polluted

In a beach water quality report to be released today by the Natural Resources Defense Council, Hanama‘ulu Beach County Park tied for 10th place with two Mainland beaches in a list of polluted beaches in the nation that exceed national standards.

‘Anini turtle dies due to propeller injuries

Thousands of crabs found dead at Poipu Beach

Thousands of tiny dead crabs washed up on to Poipu Beach Tuesday afternoon.
Jean Souza of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, who provided these photos, says she collected about 700 of them.
A Kauai water safety officer was quoted as saying there were thousands all over the beach park on Kauai’s southeast shore.
