Study: Use Kaloko Dam For Kauai Irrigation Water

May 10th, 2009 · 1 Comment

A recent report prepared for Kauai County said Kaloko dam should continue to be used to irrigate farms on Kauai’s north shore.

Kaloko dam collapsed in March 2006, unleashing a flood of water that killed seven people.

The dam break also shrunk Kaloko reservoir’s water storage capacity by almost 90 percent.

Nearby farmers who rely on irrigation water from Kaloko asked the county to study whether the dam would continue to provide them with water.

The report, issued last month by Oahu-based Sustainable Resources Group International Inc., said the existing irrigation system has legal, regulatory, and mechanical deficiencies.

But it said these problems can be overcome and using Kaloko is the most feasible way to provide irrigation water to the area.

Please read this report before perpetuating the stupidity of TV. It is a draft report -suggesting alternatives only if and when court cases are over. It considers using stolen unpermitted water that the residents of Moloa`a desparately need. It considers “overspilling” water over the broken dam face of Ka Loko 85% of the time. It details the mismanagement and lack of safe operations of a company operating for 3 years without insurance after killing 8 people from storing too much water. This cannot be continued.
