Kauai’s economy to see little growth
Kauai’s economy may creep to a halt this year as a “triple whammy” hits Hawaii, with two cruise ships leaving the interisland market, the demise of Aloha and ATA airlines and a surge in oil prices sending tourism into a slump.
The Garden Isle may see little or no economic growth this year, First Hawaiian Bank economic adviser Leroy Laney said yesterday during an annual overview of the island’s economy.
Kauai’s housing sales and job growth also are dropping, as the jobless rate climbs.
