Hawaii BioEnergy has named a new president and CEO.

The Honolulu-based company announced Monday that Paul S. Zorner, with more than 20 years of experience in renewable fuels research and development, was named to the top position.

Zorner most recently served as chief scientific officer, founder and executive director of PEL. PEL is focused on creating green energy in Mozambique by using sugar cane conversion to ethanol and power on the Isle of Man.

Zorner is also a member of the board of directors for Kuehnle AgroSystems in Hawaii.

Hawaii BioEnergy formed in 2006, bringing together Hawaii landowners Maui Land & Pineapple, Kamehameha Schools and Grove Farm of Kauai in an effort to develop crops that can be converted to energy.
