Roy Powers REEF Hawaiian Pro

Winning the REEF Hawaiian Pro last November was just the start of a high-profile surfing career for the 27-year-old surfer from Hanalei, Roy Powers.

Powers started competing in 2002, but up until last year’s major win and his finishes this year, his highest ranking on the Association of Surfing Professional’s World Tour he enjoyed was 34th in 2006.

He has since risen to No. 16 in the world and has earned nearly a quarter of a million dollars on the tour alone. On newstands, SURFER the magazine recently caught up with Powers for an in-depth interview.

In it, Powers discusses his gig throwing out the opening pitch at a San Diego Padres game, what he would change about the world, the last movie he saw to what inspires him.

Powers most recently competed in the U.S. Open of Surfing in California.
