Orides set pace in Princeville wind

April 7th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Cory Oride continued to set the pace in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation golf field, shooting a 1-over-par 73 to lead the Saturday match at the Princeville Makai Course.

The brisk trades appeared to take its toll on Kapa‘a and Waimea golfers, but Oride remained steady, carding a 1-over-par 37 on the front nine and finishing with a par-36 on the backside to lead the Kaua‘i team scoring.

“The boys were having a hard time out there,” said Ross Shimabukuro, the Kaua‘i High School athletic director, who visited the match between baseball games at the Ron Martin field and the volleyball games at the Bernice Hundley Gym. “There was one Kapa‘a boy who had a 41, but everybody else was higher than that. There were a lot of 50s out there.”

The Red Raiders, who captured the KIF boys title last week in Wailua, finished with a 312 followed by Kapa‘a at 349 and Waimea at 371.
