NA PALI COAST TRAIL — Emergency responders were called to rescue an injured man after his mother called dispatch at 6:18 p.m. Saturday night.
The man, a 27-year-old from Seattle, was hiking through rugged terrain near Hanakapi‘ai Beach.
His mother called dispatch to report he had injured his ankle, according to Mary Daubert, county spokeswoman.
Two Hanalei firefighters walked into the trail to retrieve the man and escorted him out, Daubert said. The man used the aid of two walking sticks to exit.
According to fire department personnel, the man refused medical treatment and was released at 8 p.m. at the trailhead, where his mother was waiting for him in a private vehicle.
