The search for Byron Say has been escalated after the North Shore resident led police on a high-speed chase and then escaped on foot Tuesday night in Hanalei.
According to county spokeswoman Mary Daubert, Say, “already wanted for numerous offenses,†was spotted on a moped at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night by police officers on Weke Road near Black Pot Beach Park.
“Police gave chase when they spotted him,†Daubert said yesterday. “He accelerated all the way to the other end, where he dumped the moped and jumped in the bushes and fled on foot. It was dark so he eluded police.â€
Residents of Aku Road in Hanalei reported numerous police officers and members of KPD’s Special Services Tactical Team in the area, as well as a gun shot some time around 10 p.m. Those reports were unconfirmed by KPD.
For Say, it’s the latest in a long list of offenses.
