NSSA HAWAII CONFERENCE RVCA SERIES BLOWS UP AT PINE TREES FOR FIFTH EVENT

The mass exodus of surfers trailed down the inter-island series to the Garden Isle as over 200 plus competitors, parents and team coaches snuggled in the Bay at Hanalei for the fifth stop of the eight event RVCA series.

As expected, surf in the head high to two feet over brought the best of Hawaii’s future into high gear with a crazy Saturday of multi peaks and double heats. The surfers were on it and so were the burgers on the grill, as all weathered the chill factor and the wind whipped in between grinds and snappy turns on the Pine Trees sand bars.

By Sunday, the single file contest wittled down to finalist and a return to glory by Maui’s Kai Barger in the Open Men and the north shore of Oahu’s Kiron Jabour in the Juniors. Bringing back top awards to their respective islands, Kona’s Lahiki Minamishin took down the Open Boys and Lanai’s Imai DeVault brought on the heat to warm the Open Grom division.

As for the Kauai contingent, Leila Hurst took first in the Open Women as well as a runner-up in the Explorer Women and Girls. Winning the Surfco surfer award over the weekend was Maui’s Zane Schweitzer with a second in the Open Longboard and a third in the Explorer Longboard division.
