Kauai’s Andy Irons surfed into the fourth round of the Quiksilver Pro with his victory over Ben Bourgeois today at Snapper Rocks in Australia.
Irons produced wave scores of 8.67 and 9.17 to set up a fourth-round match against Australia’s Kai Otton.
The 29-year-old Irons, a three-time world champion, may face eight-time world champ Kelly Slater in the quarterfinals if he beats Otton and Slater gets past Adriano de Souza of Brazil.
Event organizers expect to finish the contest tomorrow.
The Quiksilver Pro is the season-opening contest in the Association of Surfing Professionals’ World Championship Tour.
