The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory starting tonight for north and west facing shores of Niihau and Kauai and the north facing shores of Oahu and Molokai.

A northwest swell will arrive tonight with advisory level surf remaining through Thursday night. The swell was generated two days ago by a low far northwest of the islands.

The high surf advisory in effect from 6 p.m. this evening to 6 a.m. Friday.

Surf along west facing shores of Niihau and Kauai will rise to 8 to 12 feet tonight.

Surf along north facing shores of Niihau, Kauai and Oahu will rise to 10 to 15 feet tonight.

Surf along north facing shores of Molokai will rise to 10 to 15 feet early Thursday morning.

The high surf advisory will likely last through Thursday night.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.
